Who is this article for?
This article concerns businesses deducting actual expenses. If you use the standard expense deduction under the Israeli micro-business regime, do not automatically apply the example to an additional purchase: that regime calculates expenses differently and needs a separate review.
Start with the business need
Consider what operations need, when the purchase will be used and which payments are already due. This is a management decision: a possible tax benefit does not replace cash-flow planning.
Paying is not always the same as deducting
A business asset may be deductible through depreciation rather than in full immediately. Reporting method also affects timing: for example, the Tax Authority guide links tax-return preparation costs to payment under cash accounting and service delivery under accrual accounting. Before paying in December, check how your particular transaction will be treated.
What is the remaining cost?
A fictional, simplified example: assume a NIS 1,000 expense is fully deductible in the same year and the marginal income-tax effect is 20%. The income-tax reduction would be NIS 200, leaving a cost of NIS 800. This is not a personal tax projection. It excludes VAT, National Insurance, losses, credits and other conditions; the rate is illustrative only.
What should you provide before buying?
The purchase description and business use, price and payment terms, expected delivery and use dates, available documents, and current commitments and cash flow. Flag inventory, equipment, advance payments or mixed personal and business use.
A practical next step
First check that the expense is useful and affordable. Then review its accounting and tax treatment. This is general information, not a substitute for an individual assessment.
Questions and answers
Does a deductible expense give me all my money back?
No. Subject to the rules, a deduction reduces the income used to calculate tax. It does not reimburse the full purchase price.

Do not assume so. Check whether its cost must be recognised through depreciation, its business use and the applicable rules.

No. Payment alone does not determine recognition for every expense and reporting method. Review the transaction and the appropriate year.

First assess the business need and cash flow. Even a deductible expense generally leaves a real cost. This is not a recommendation to buy something unnecessary.
