Can an annual tax return be amended after it has been filed?

Found a mistake or an omitted document? There may still be a way forward. First, let’s identify exactly what needs correcting.

Published: 6 November 2026

The short answer

Yes, an amendment can be requested

The route depends on the change and the status of the file. A technical correction and a material change are different, and sending another document does not mean the request has been accepted.

Start with a clear explanation

Gather the filed return, filing confirmation and relevant document. Explain the original figure, the proposed change and the reason. This makes the request easier to review properly.

Check the procedure too

If an assessment has already arrived or another procedure is underway, check the deadlines and appropriate next step. An amendment request is not automatic approval, and another action may also be needed.
