Payments on account are not always the final bill
Once the final income-tax assessment arrives, contributions may be reconciled with payments on account. Depending on the applicable rules, this can create an additional charge or a credit.

What should we check?
The year, income basis, National Insurance status and credited payments. Mention any concurrent employment or change in activity. The calculation is not necessarily a direct copy of the final income-tax figure.
Some circumstances need a closer look
For example, certain work-injury benefits can lock the income basis at its pre-injury level. If you received a relevant benefit, mention it. Before deciding that the notice is wrong, review the figures and your particular circumstances.
