Received a letter from the Israel Tax Authority? First, take a breath.

Not every letter means something is wrong. Sometimes a document is missing or a detail needs clarifying. Let’s read the request together and work out what comes next.

The short answer

What are they actually asking for?

Start with three things: the tax year, the request and the response deadline. A request for a missing document and a payment demand are different situations. Read first, then decide how to respond.

Let’s gather what you need

Keep the complete letter and its attachments, and collect the records relevant to the request. There is no need to resend everything if only one certificate was requested. If anything is unclear, check before replying.

The deadline still matters

Even a simple-looking request deserves attention. Check the deadline that applies to your notice; do not assume that an enquiry or a request for more time automatically moves it.

Did the message arrive with a link?

Visit the official website independently and verify the request through an official channel. Do not give a password or verification code to someone who contacted you. This helps verify the source without overlooking a genuine letter.

Something does not add up? Let’s review it

A changed assessment, a substantial difference or an unclear request is worth reviewing with a professional. An investigation or suspected offence also calls for appropriate legal advice. After replying, keep confirmation and check what remains outstanding.
